Tewkesbury Lodge Crime Cascade July and August 2006

Lewisham has one of the lowest crime rates in Central London, and our estate has one of the lowest in Lewisham. Let's keep it that way - ensure your property is properly secured, be vigilant and report anything, however trivial it might seem , to the Police (numbers below). And remember, do not leave anything (coat, bag, parcels, etc.) in your car. Lock them in the boot out of sight.

Car

-

In mid-June, someone smashed into a resident's car that was parked on Ringmore Rise and drove off. I have no further details.

House

-

Early in August, at about 4 in the morning, a resident of Canonbie Road woke up and heard noises from within the house. On investigating, it was found that a burglar had entered the kitchen, but had been disturbed. However, he stole a bag which contained car keys, and then stole the car (an oldish, family vehicle). The car was found the next day, dumped nearby, with the keys still in the ignition. No damage was done. The Police were called.

Other

-

At the end of June, a garage door on Canonbie Road was opened during the night. Nothing was damaged or stolen. The Police were informed.

-

In early August, a resident from Ringmore Rise was mugged near the Dry-cleaners on the corner of Forest Hill Road and Ryedale. She was grabbed from behind and her bag was stolen. The mugger jumped into the passenger seat of a waiting car and drove off. In the bag was a chequebook, and the muggers tried to cash cheques to the value of £3,000. Fortunately, the resident had informed the bank immediately of the theft, so was not liable. Note, however, that you should receive written confirmation from a bank when you inform them of a theft, as a phone call cannot be relied upon - the resident only informed the bank by phone, and had great difficulties with them later on.

-

At the end of August, 6 to 8 youths were seen hanging around the Nature Trail behind Westwood Park, and then proceeded to smash a window in a resident's greenhouse. A neighbour, seeing this, confronted them, but this provoked a further reaction and another object was thrown at the greenhouse. The Police were called and they came within 10 minutes to take statements. The youths had ran off before they arrived.
